This is the start of my most recent article for Desiring God<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

What happens when God doesn\u2019t answer your prayer after three, four, or five years? How about when he doesn\u2019t answer it after ten, or fifteen, or even twenty years? Do you still trust him, decades down the line? Do you still ask him \u2014 again<\/em> \u2014 for an answer to that same prayer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m walking this road, because I\u2019ve been asking God to answer one prayer \u2014 for healing from a medical condition I developed as a child \u2014 for over twenty years.<\/p>\n

Still, after these long years of waiting, I can tell you two things with complete honesty:<\/p>\n

  1. I trust God.<\/li>\n
  2. I definitely don\u2019t always understand him.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I trust that God is who he says he is \u2014 good, just, merciful.<\/strong> And I trust that Christ\u2019s death on the cross was his proving once and for all just how much he loves me and all people (Romans 5:8<\/a>).<\/p>\nI trust that God is who he says he is, yet I don't always understand him. #stillwaitingbook <\/a><\/span>Share on X<\/a><\/span>\n

    Yet I don\u2019t always understand him.<\/strong> It\u2019s hard to square what I read about Jesus in the Bible \u2014 his willingness and ability to heal, his miracles, his compassion and tenderness \u2014 with what seems like a lack of help and healing in my own life. I know it wouldn\u2019t be hard for him to heal me, but in twenty years, he still hasn\u2019t done it. And if I\u2019m going to be honest, I have to say that if this is his love toward me, it sure doesn\u2019t feel like love.<\/p>\n
