An Influence Conference Giveaway!

I’m teaming up with some lovely blogger friends to give away two (2) tickets to two (2) women for the 2015 Influence Conference! I just went to the conference last month, and it was such an encouragement to me as a follower of Jesus, as a writer, as a wife, and as a mama. You will meet women from all over the country who are seeking to learn about how to follow Jesus as small business owners, bloggers, and women and how to leverage their influence for His glory! Writing Wednesdays: A Giveaway with Tiny Owl Studios

If you know me, you know that I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to words, grammar, and punctuation. I’m using “geek” here in the secondary dictionary sense of “a person who is very interested in and knows a lot about a particular field or activity.” I care deeply about language and how it is used with purpose and power–which is one of the many reasons I love teaching college English. My love for words is also one of the reasons that I love, love, love Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies by Marilyn Chandler McEntyre. I could go on and on, but–I have a giveaway to share!

Several years ago, I came across these gems when I was perusing Etsy:

The English professor in me geeked out. Tiny Owl Studios was making cheeky posters about grammar! It was better than I could have imagined!

And I knew–absolutely knew–that when I had an office, one of those puppies would be up on the wall. So now, welcome to my office:

Honestly, I love this poster. I still think it’s wonderful and hysterical and, best of all, true! I want to force my students to read it closely every time they come in for meetings. In an alternate universe, I would have my office wallpapered with the entire series.

A Giveaway with Barberry & Lace!

About a month and a half ago, I had the opportunity to attend Hope Spoken, a women’s conference held in Texas. I encountered Jesus in beautiful ways during my time there and made some new, sweet friends in those three days. My time there was a gift.

In our swag bag, there was a necklace from Barberry and Lace–and I loved it! I started looking around her Etsy shop and found beauties like this:

After connecting with her, Leigh was kind enough to make me a piece that wasn’t even in her shop–and then as we talked about doing a giveaway together she sent me another necklace. I have been wearing it and getting tons of compliments on it–friends at church, a woman who works on campus with me, the barista at the coffee shop–everyone loves my new Barberry & Lace necklace. Even Ella thinks it’s great!

Hope Has Risen & a Little Light Prints Giveaway!

Through the long season of Lent, we have finally–and joyfully–arrived at Easter. From my days in a liturgical church, I can hear the refrain echoing:

He is risen! He is risen indeed!

There is another refrain that I remember, another call and response that echoes that ache we often feel:

Christ is risen! Christ will come again!

Christ will come again. I talked with a friend this morning about the reality of living in the tension between the now and the not yet of faith. We talked about how Lent, perhaps more than any other season in the Christian calendar, reminds us of the dissonance that often exists between the desires of our hearts and the reality of our existence. There is still brokenness, both in ourselves and in the world we inhabit. There is still pain. And yet. Yet.

Christ will come again.

There is a day coming when he will make all things new, when brokenness and pain will no longer exist. And Easter, with all of its hope and celebration, points us to that day. The day where all things are made right in Christ.

Sometimes, though, the days get long and hard, and we need reminders of those truths. I’ve written before about how putting Scripture up in our homes can encourage us and help us stay connected to Jesus when our hearts are tired or busy. And today, I’m thankful to have the opportunity to partner with Little Light Prints to give away an 8×10 print to one of my readers–the winner gets to choose her print!
